English New Waver. Singer-songwriter. Mountain climber?! Well, if you’ve been keeping tabs on what Cy Curnin’s been up to (and perhaps, while you’re at it, taken a glance at the photo gallery on his website), you would have know that the former frontman for The Fixx has been busy planting flags on Mount Everest, Machu Picchu and Kilimanjaro as well as working to raise money for the Love, Hope, Strength Foundation, which raises money for cancer centers through music. Pretty cool to add some Edmund Hillary-type street cred to an already impressive resume. Currently, Curnin is making a series of rare acoustic appearances this month across North America, including a stop at the Fender Museum in Corona. He’ll likely be doling out songs from his most recent one-man album, Solar Minimum, as well as acoustic re-interpretations of his Fixx repertoire on guitar and piano, such as “Saved By Zero,” “Red Sky at Night” and—you guessed it!—“One Thing Leads to Another.” Nick Harper, who clocked in some time with Squeeze, will be helping Curnin out on this jaunt. After this Corona performance, he’s done with the Southwest and headed for New York. Mountain climbing for a good cause in the urban jungle? We wouldn’t put it past him.
